Tunisia is looking towards a green future by investing heavily in wind energy.
Tunisia already has one wind farm that began producing 8.7 megawatts (MW) of electricty in the Cap Bon area of the country 15 years ago.
In 2003, the government developed this site further and it is expected that by next year it will be producing 34 MW of energy.
When the site is at capacity it will save Tunisia approximately ten million dinars. It will also reduce the output of carbon dioxide by 113,000 tonnes.
Tunisia has now decided to develop three more wind farms in the country that are expected to generate a further 120 MW of electricity for the country. The wind farms will be built in Metline, Beni Aouf and Jebel Kechabta.
When these wind farms are complete, Tunisia will be the leading African country for wind energy and also one of the leading countries using wind energy worldwide.
