Tunisia's tourism minister Tijani Haddad has honoured the achievements of three Tunisian hotels by granting them five stars for top quality customer experience.
The ministry made public its intention to reclassify hotels based on a new set of criteria at the start of this month and 11 hotels have so far had their applications to be granted new ratings approved.
The new system is designed to eliminate some of the erratic features of the previous ad hoc ratings, which meant five stars could mean something quite different from one hotel to the next.
The initiative aims to introduce consistency across the board and guarantee visitors the custom they expect, keeping them coming back to Tunisia.
As he introduced the new schema, the minister emphasised that the standards for Tunisian hotels now matched those exacted across the world.
The number of tourists to Tunisia grew by 3.7 per cent between January 1st and October 31st according to the National Board of Tourism.
