A UN representative from the Convention on Biological Diversity has hailed Tunisia's commitment to preserving natural resources.
Ahmed Joghlaf met with agriculture and water resources minister Habib Haddad to discuss the preservation of biological diversity.
Mr. Joghlaf said the award the convention had previously presented to President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali for "Preservation of Life on Earth" proved Tunisia's continuing commitment to environmental sustainability.
Balancing the development of productive industries against a commitment to environmental sustainability is undoubtedly a challenge for Tunisia, as for many other countries - British Gas's largest project outside the UK involves extracting natural gas from Tunisia's Miskar field.
But progress is promising – Tunisia's International Centre for Environmental Technologies (CITET) is committed to strengthening environmental protection, eco-technologies and sustainable resource management through international cooperation.
CITET partners firms to ensure they uphold the commitment to sustainability and waste management that are critical components of becoming a competitive, responsible and respected corporation in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
