The seventh annual Tunisia-Japan Symposium in Science, Society and Technology (TJASSST 2006) is taking place 50 years after the two countries decided to have a diplomatic relationship.
The symposium has been taking place since 2000 and will be held this year in the eastern coastal town of Sousse in Tunisia, attended by the country's minister of science research, technology and competency development, Professor Taieb Hadhri.
A record 90 Japanese delegates are expected to attend the 2006 event, including the ambassador of Japan in Tunisia, Yasuaki Ono, and a number of international researchers are coming from other countries, in the Americas, North Africa and Europe.
Sponsored by Japanese research funding agency JSPS, researchers will be able to participate in sessions sharing and discussing their collaborative work, developing mutual understanding and a "constructive international environment" in which to pursue shared values.
More than 30 joint seminars and symposia have been organised between Japan and Tunisia since 1997, with scores of researchers taking part in events in both countries.
