The quietest part of Tunisia, I'm quite sure of that. Get a ferry from Sfax over to Kerkennah in just over an hour. Anyway I took some photo's of Kerkennah, please excuse my photo's, I took them with my phone




To me Kerkennah is not Tunisia, the people are different, the culture is different, the island looks totally different, it's very quiet and peacefull, the sea is nice and clean and doesn't get deep quick.

If you want to experience Kerkennah then go to the Grand Hotel which is also a very peacefull hotel with beautiful music.

Sod Hammemet, Sousse, Monastir... go to Kerkennah!

It looks quite peaceful. What do you enjoy most about the culture there as opposed to the rest of Tunisia?

Everyone there seems happy, relaxed and very friendly. In other parts of Tunisia everyone is in a hurry, they can be rude and the culture is just not the same.

In Kerkennah it is baking hot but at the same time its not humid or sticky, you get a nice breeze from the sea. Stay at the Grand if your interested, book it up for 2, 3 days to try it out. You won't be dissapointed!

Yes, you are right - Kerkennah is a wonderful place. The sea is amazingly warm, people are friendly and there is always a nice breeze so it doesn't get too hot! I have just moved here with my tunisian husband and 2 children and plan to spend a lazy year here before moving to Tunis. Would recommend visiting here to anyone!!! It does look lovely there. I maybe might look into coming over there when i come for a holiday in Ocotober. How would i go about getting the boat and can you take a car with you? It only takes 1 hour and what time of the day does the boats depart and arrive?

Hi thank you for your post and pictures, it does seem very beautiful and definately worth a trip, however many regions differ so dramatically in Tunisia, I understand your point about everyone being in a hurry I feel this when I go to Tunis to visit my other halfs family but I do feel more relaxed and comfortable in Sousse, I think it is based on peoples personality as to where they prefer to stay, but I will look into it as my parents are here for 2 weeks and we are wanting to show them all around Tunisia, so any further information you can provide will be great.

The boat takes about 1hr 15mins and can be quite tricky manouvering with car as you have to sqeeze in backwards. However, there is a new boat which began last week, roll on/roll off and is bigger only taking 40 minutes (I haven't seen it yet though). The population increases from about 10,000 to 120,000 from the end of July to the end of August so there are problems getting on the boat, but they make them more frequent. Check in La Presse for boat times but usually they are every few hours. Cost - 650 millimes per person and 4d400 for a car - pretty good really! Sometimes you see dolphins following the boat, and make sure you don't need the toilet as it is not very pretty as you can imagine! There is really only one working hotel worth staying in, The Grand Hotel which is right on the beachfront. Only 2 star though and not sure of the cost. Apart from relaxing, swimming and ocean views, there really isn't much to do so bring a book! Today they have been going mad cleaning the roadsides everywhere as apparently the minister of environment is coming on Friday to visit, or it may be the president as rumour is going round.
