Default Prices for gold in Tunisia.

Hi to all members. Shortly: I'm businessman from Russia, and I'm planning to visit Tunisia in a second time in the first decade of May. My main profession is investment&corporate finance, but I'm also very interesting in gold&silver export operations. It's a venture business for me. So,guys, I have several questions to you:

1. Can anyone of you tell me what is the actual price per one gramm of 14K and 18K of gold for the wholebuyers in Tunisia? I'm not interesting in retail prices for tourists, I'm really interesting in wholeprices. At my first visit in Tunisia one year ago several guys from the shop near my hotel in Sousse offered to me a 14K gold chains for very affordable prices, so I'm just thinking: was it a fake or I can really buy a test lot of gold in Tunisia for russian jewellers?

2. The another question is does they have a gold mines in Tunisia or tunisian jewellers just import gold bars from another countries like Egypt, Sudan or South Africa? Guys on medina in Sousse told what the gold is not Tunisian, it's has been imported from another countries, but I' just want to check that information too.

Also I would be pleasure to establish long-term relations with a businessmen from Tunisia, which also works in jewellery business and may be in real estate sector.

Best regards, Archi.

P.S.: sorry for my English, it's not so good as a native speaker's.

concening 14k (1gr)without stamp is about 15td and reaches the 18td. but 1gr 14k with stamp is between 18td and 21td.

* on the other hand, 1gr 18k without stamp is about 23td but the 1gr with stamp can reach 32td .

Hi Archirussia,

Hope that you are in good health !
I really don't think that the gold in Tunisia is very expensive, but be aware not to get lambered with anything fake ...............
I know quite a few people who buy from people who have bought gold from Turkey and Libya to sell, it must be worth there while and Libya is Tunisa 's next door neighbours anyway and as for Turkey that's just above Libya, so there not far at all............
Tunis is a good place to buy gold, you must make out that you know the price ruffly and try and haggle, never be shy in Tunisia to haggle.............BOUHA gave you some good advice and he obviously knows what his talking about.......good luck....take care

Hi all

Yes have to say i agree with Roulla have seen alot of the gold for salewhich is not pure i think i heard that if you buy gold or diamonds ect to ask for a certificate of authenticity then if it turns out to not be real you have evidence of sale ect.

My husband (Tunisian) maintains that the majority of 'gold' jewellery sold in hotels is fake, and there are traveller reviews on sites such as 'tripadvisor' that substantiate this.

I wanted to add that my husbands family is going to Libya to buy me goldfor the wedding. Apparently its cheaper, even if its quite a trip i have heard lots of women do this "pilgramige" for gold.
I would go with them but apparently i need a Visa. My husband laughed cuz he was like the libyan president hates anything from the west, including canadians lol
