can anybody help me with work

Hey im 18 and englich. I speak fairly good arabic and french and am still learning. I am living in Hammam-sousse with my faince and his mother, i am desperatly looking to work in Tunisia can anybody help me?? Also my fiance is 19 years old and tunisian but he does not want to work oon the beach or disco again in the summer can any body give him advice?? thankz xxx

It is quite difficult to find work in Tunisia for foreigners. Everything depends on your qualifications. If you are studying for a degree or have a degree you can apply to teach english via the Tunisian ministry of Higher Education who are desperate for English teachers and it is not necessary to be specialised as a teacher. If not, giving lessons privately can make a bit of money but you will have to be in a good place where you can charge relatively high prices such as northern Tunis...Im not sure how that would work in Hammam Sousse for example. Apart from that, the only real way I know where you can earn enough money to live from is by asking to work in hotels ...usually animation as they are often looking for girls. You can get your board and lodging and you dont need to have experience. Maybe it would be better for you to apply to English companies, get an interview in England as Im sure you will be paid more. Other than that, you need to know somebody or have specific skills if you want to work in something else and the wages are very low.

I too live in Hammam Sousse, I have been here since October but been in Tunisia for a long time now. I totally feel for you on the work front I have been looking for work myself for 7 months, I am currently doing a TEFL Course. As has been said before you need to literally email as many companies as you can, its definately a case of who you know here as unemployment is so high. Good luck and contact me anytime x

dont know if this q still going just found it now so getting a job in tunisia is like getting a blood out of a stone im tunisian and i have done my time in there i use to live in port el kantaoui now in uk i think the best idea for ya is to contact any british travel agency like panorama.airtours.first choice.etc im sure they ll be more then happy to offer ya a position .saying all that ur boyfriend should know all of that really(tunisia is who ya know corruption )gud luck let me know how ya get on hope that did help ..

I'm going out to Sousse to stay for 6 months, although not until January 2009. Any advice from anyone about working out there? I've read all the things already on this thread, and as much as I like children, I wouldn't be there long enough to teach English.
Is it as simple as walking into a hotel and teling them you only speak English, but do they have any jobs. I plan to go over there with alot of money anyway, that I have saved up. So I wouldn't need to work for money, but would like to work to get to know people, to make friends. And to pass the time whilst my boyfriend is working . Any ideas?

the only thing i can suggest if you only speak english in maybe an office position in thomson offices out there or one of the other agencies. you could just work in the day time doing admin position maybe, you still get to met people as you deal with the tunisian guys who run the trips and all the hotel staff around that resort

Couple of years ago I spoke to two recruitment agencies; Adecco and Manpower based in Sousse and Tunis. Adecco advised me to get my cv translated into French or Arabic then they could market my cv. We were chatting at office jobs.
You could try getting a job as a holiday rep or a receptionist in a hotel.

in khzema its next to souuse there is a thomos cook office where people from england work and they are looking for workers i got an app form from them they pay realy good they give you a choice which time of year you want to work if u still live in england but in your cases you could work full time its the zone touristique you no the main road between sousse and hammam sousse where the ice creme place is caza its the road parrallel to that theres a big building with about 5 different holiday agencies looking for foriegners and english speaking tunisians and the best thing is they pay you in english money not tunisian
