Can i travel idependently and easily from hammamet to el djem?

my partner and i are in hammamet in june. we would like to see ej djem but do not want to do the two day sahara excursion. is it possible to travel independently from hammamet to el djem - if so what is the easiest way to travel - train? does anyone have details - timetables etc....
alternatively are there any excursions which would just go to el djem?

Which operator are you going with and what hotel.

I think there may now be a 1 day trip which goes to El Jem then Kairouan.

Be adventurous, take the train south, louage and/or taxi, I can not give you the exact itinary right now, but your hotel or ep should advise you, do not be conned into over priced excursions.

As mentioned above ... there is one day excursion to Kairouan and El Jem.

Otherwise you can just take a louage, or a touristic Taxi.

I wont being staying in a hotel in Jan, but an apartment, so wont be able to organise anything through the rep/travel agent.
Does anyone know of anywhere independant that arranges different days trips to travel around Tunisia ?

Why an agency? There are car rental companies who will rent you a car with a chauffeur. With 2 people, you pay almost the same price as in the huge tourist busses - only there, you will have also a mandatory stopover in a carpet/camel/llamablanket factory...
Such a private-car-arrangement is a real alternative to the organized excursions, and more fun too, since you can stop/go whenever YOU want. :-)

Great Idea I always stop and get fruit and things from the side of the road (food things lol)

Its perfectly safe just make sure people know where you are going as you would in the UK/any other place on holiday
