I guess the age would certainly be 20 for boy and 18 for girls as far as I knew it. I am not so sure whether I am right but I am just guessing it.

Do you mean Tunisian boys marrying Tunisan girls, or them getting married to other nationals? As I'm guessing there would b a lot of difference with the average ages

I would say after study now but much earlier if not students.

Boys tend to be older then girls my wife considered me a bit young (Me 29 her 27)

My Daughter certainly isn't getting married until she finishes her study.

That is a good question. I really am not sure of the answer but I don't think that getting married in your early twenties is all that great. Only because there is so much left to do when you are that young before you settle down.

I agree with you tater, there are so many things to do before marriage. I just feel that one should enjoy at such an early age instead of marrying and settling. Age of boy would be 20 & girl 18 for marriage but that is too early to settle in life marrying.

In many cases in Tunisia, marriages are contractual and age doesn't come into it. Sometimes the girls are much younger than their husband to be. The girls go straight from their parental home to the marital one (just like the UK until, I suppose, the early 70's) and they concentrate on looking after the home and children. One couple I know just got married, he's 30 and she's 17 and they've just had their first daughter (who is gorgeous). Maybe in the not so traditional homes, perhaps in the cities things will be different for girls and they will have a chance to concentrate on their careers!!

You mention that it is contractual but do they get a say on whether they want to marry the person? I just was unaware of this fact. thanks

Which parties are the contracts between? Do you mean the parents set up arranged marriages, or the people getting married have some kind of a contract? If that's the case, what determines if there's a marriage or not? The value of "gifts" offered?
