Exclamation ATM fraud

I am not sure if anyone else has had this problem. Recently i was visiting Hammamet and used the ATM's as i have many times before. On my return home i got my bank statement and saw that my ATM withdrawals had been duplicated. There were even withdrawals from Nabeul and i did not even go there. My bank have passed the inforamtion to the fraud squad but told me that the banks involved know this is happening. That my card had been cloned.....I am amazed that this can happen to me after travel all over the world and it has to happen in my most favourite place.

My bank are still investigating so i would just like people to be very careful there is no way to find out about this until you get hom and recieve the bank statement.

Happy Hols

it's terrible really what people can do nowadays, i know my friend just recently been involved in phisching-i dont know how u spell it, but they took over £1000 punds from her current account and a brand new contract mobile phone and 42" plasma TV turned up at her house!
people would have hard luck trying get anything from my account, perhaps its better to have no money!

I think some Tunisians had had the issue of double charging also it seems that almost everyone hates credit cards there which has been a pain in the bum for me kitting out the new office as I hate carrying round thousands of dinars in my bag.

Sayng that it probably keeps prices lowever as no doubt Tunisians will be like the UK slinging things on the plastic.

I was havin a conversation about house prices the other day (English Obsesion) which are almost just as high in Tunisia in compaison with wages and I asked how boys got everything for a new house on no wages when they got married (as my wife hates the way we get something as we can afford it one after the other) and the response was that they get into debt if their family cannot afford it and maybe thei family get into debt if they cannot help ether.

I found this quite sad as apparently quite a lot of Tunisian families are like those inthe UK borrowing lot has anyone else found this tobe the case?

Default Hi

Hi Kris,

You are right, a lot of tunisians borrow from the bank and the rules here to borrow money are a lot stronger than English rules, it really does affect the family as a whole. Unfortunately when you borrow money and then can not pay it back, you are not offered the opportunity of bankruptcy and such here which is terrible when businesses go bust due to many reasons, if you can not repay the loans then the sympathy for that runs low here.

This is terrible and what is bad with me is I don't always go over my statements like I should. I heard about this happening in Thailand also.

I don't go to ATM's at all. Even though I have a card that can access it I don't use it. I physically go in to the bank and get amount of money I need. That keeps me safe from that. But I have had credit card fraud on my bank account. I had to switch cards, type a long letter, and fax it to them.

Default Hi

Hi Issam,

I totally agree with you fraud happens in every country, the point here was that you dont expect it to happen to you in another country but it can and yes you have to be extra careful when travelling and when you are living in that country. Barclays are not my favourite people either after they messed me around whilst I was in Tunisia, they wouldnt let me withdraw my own money in Tunisia until I had sent them a letter etc, they claimed they were acting for safety reasons, not convenient at the time though!!
