Hi Lucy,

when i go to see my family in Tunisia i have to drink bottled as i am ill the whole time by drinking water from the tap. i think individual opinions are required :-) as not everyone has the same steel stomachs to take the water in other countries

Hi All,
Hope that you are all in good health !
I even brush my teeth with boiled water and have been doing for many years, as i used to find that tap water used to give me a really sore throat, my family all do the same............................................

Default Water

If the water was as bad as you are all making out in Tunisia, then all the Tunisians would have dropped dead by now! Have a nice day everyone!

its not about the water being bad its about being used to it, so if your like me and dont have a strong stomach and your not used to their water then dont drink it from a tap :-)

I agree with Jacqui here,
I tend to drink bottled water most of the time when out in Tunisia as too much of their water disagrees with my stomach, ie constipation/ diarrhrea...
Even when in different parts of UK the water can have these affects on my stomach.

My water at home has 11 degrees of hardness. They say we need a water softener. I drink bottles water , and have a Pur water filter for drinking from my tap. Everyone has water problems, so don't worry about that.

My husband is Tunisian and all his life he drank the tap water unless they were outside the house, and sometimes they would buy bottled water just for a new bottle to refill in the house. But when he returned and had been gone 5 years and used to he water here in the US, he drank the tap water from Tunisia and got soooo sick we were in the Taufiq Hospital for 3 days and a 500 US dollar bill for the stay. Needless to say, anywhere you go your body doesnt have those same immunities as the locals, no matter how developed the country. I have to agree with those who say never drink tap water on any trip outside your home country. My husband gets sick ever single visit when he drinks the tap water. I also heard that people in Tunisia have higher rates of kidney stones because of the high mineral content of the water, although it would take some time to develop that condition.

I would rather say that somethings depend on the water and some depends on the body. Everyone don't really tend to have same effects as others. When I visit my home town where I was born and brought up but had to leave the place after marriage, it was hard to get back to my normal life when I went for a visit after 2 and half years. Water didn't suit my body and the heat made me have hot boils all over my exposed skin. That is the weather where I was born and spent 26 yrs of my life but it showed a negative effect just in less than 3 yrs.

i drink a bit of both, his family all drink tap water and so I tend to just do the same. i think it all depends on the strength of your tum. I used to get a dodgy tum even with the food, alot of it being so oily, now I seem quite accustomed to it.
