That sounds like a fabulous cruise, Grace! And that's the way I like to travel, too... not having debt when I return and paying for the same trip two years from now. I like saving for vacations.

How was your time in Tunisia, James?

I hope they had a great time. I would love to hear details. If you save for a trip, how long does it take? I've heard about the Christmas club account, where you save money from each check. That's a very wise idea with money.

Default Money exchange

Can anyone tell me which IS the better deal when it comes to exchanging uk currency for Tunisian? To get just travellers cheques? a moneycard? wait til you get there before you get the currency exchanged? I would also like to know, if one can't get any Tunisian currency here before you go, how does one pay for the taxi ride from the airport to wherever one is going!!!?

Hi Briseis, I've tried a bit of everything in the past and not sure what is the best value. There are ATMs at the airports or currency exchange where you can get yourself some money for taxis etc.

Hi Briseis,

There is a bank/bureau de change at Monastir just as you clear customs after having picked up your luggage. Alternatively, there are 2 ATM machines inside the terminal building.

Unsure of where you are flying from but on previous posts some others have mentioned being able to buy dinars at bureau de change in Gatwick. Hope this helps!

i took sterling travellers cheques which were easily exchanged in my hotel (Palm Marina) remember not to change too much towards the end of your holiday and keep your exchange receipts for changing anything you have left at the airport on the way back.

Thanks for the help!
I'm flying from Newcastle to Tunis but I won't arrive until 11:30 at night so when I heard that I couldn't get any Tunisian cash at this end I thought "what are people expected to do then?"..

Briseis, not sure if the foreign exchange is still open at this time but there are a few ATMs in Tunis. One down beside the car hire firms and another few dotted around.
