Default Holiday spending money!

Hi we are a 19 year old couple going to stay in Sousse tommorow for 7 nights. We are just wondering how much spending money we would need all together, We are on a half board basis, which means we would have to buy drinks. Also we are mainly on a beach and relaxing holiday but would like to go on a few excursions maybe, eat out a cuple of times and go shoppin in the local towns. We are on quite a tight budget, would around the £150 mark be adequate or would we need more???
Also we were planning on changing all our money over at the airport, is that advisable??? Or are there sufficient hole-in-the-walls to get money out with an english visa debit card!

Many thanks for any help,
James.

Hi James

You get roughly 2.5 dinar to the pound, although at the airport maybe a little less, remember you cannot buy dinar here and take into the country and also cannot take any out either. If you dont plan on going out all the time and you basic meals are paid for then maybe just a little more than £150 would be ok :-), Im not really too sure as I always stay with family there, but i am sure someone else will advise you :-)

Hi Mark,

Ive been to tunisia a few times now staying in hotels on a half board basis. On my first visit i noticed alot of other hotel guests taking pieces of fruit and bread etc away with them from breakfast to help get them through the day.

Drinks arent expensive neither is eating out but it still can add up if you're not careful. Excersions vary from about £20-40 pp depending on what you want to do.

I spent about £250 when i was there but did spend a fair bit on shopping (leather goods are just fab!!) lol

Hope that helps you, and hope you have a fab time

x

I would also say check if you bank stings you for taking money out of the hole in the wall.

For example when I take money out with one card it charges me 5£ or so and some are better and some are worse (I hear nationwide are the best for using abroad).

If somone bet me I could feed myself for 15£ for the week however that would be sandwiches on the market and citronat :-)

I tend to spend £200 a week (with wife) and thats eating out a couple of times a week. just try some nice (but not to touristy) resturants as the price can fluctuate dramatically

Default Hi

Hi,

Yeah Kris i know the feeling with the hole in the walls, sometimes im lucky and get charged a little bit but other times it can range between £2.75 upwards - however saying that once i went to the hole in the wall in Kantaoui and it didnt even register i had taken the funds on the same note in Kantaoui it didnt give me the money and took it from my bank account -all scary stuff, but there are plenty James in and around Sousse so you wont have trouble accessing money from cashpoints.

I think approx £150 - £200 will be enough depending on what you want to do really if your looking to eat out and drink - the drinks can be expensive in some places - and then theres the over priced tourist restaurants compared to the local and less expensive, but your find your way once your here, dont worry too much i think that amount will be sufficient for a week especially if your going half board.

Theres loads to see and do in Sousse and so your have a fantastic time - just remember to haggle, haggle, haggle and your find your money will go a long way

Wow thanks alot everyone for the help. Was really excited about going last night, and today I found out there are thunderstorms 3/4 of the days that I'm there, goddamn. So that will probably raise the amount of money i'll have to spend as i'm guessing the beach isn't the best place for thundery days haha! Will be good anyway, just hope they don't last to long!
Also one last question, and don't mean to go off topic and drag out the thread butttttttttttt.............. someone just told me it's Ramadam and without showing to much ignorance I was wondering does that mean all the resaturants will be closed during daylight hours?

Default Hi

Hi James,

Yes hate to say it the weather is a bit unpredictable here in Sousse at the moment, we missed the thunderstorms that were in Monastir just 20 mins away! and today has been an absolute scorcher so you may just be in luck, bit windy in the evening but for todays temperature it was nice!!

I wont preach too much about Ramadan as I dont know that much only from what i've learnt living here, though Kris also did a page about it if you want to find out all about it, but I can say that the restaurants are open to tourists so dont worry too much about that, you will still be able to eat and drink outside the hotel. Sousse has a main tourist area as well as Kantaoui just 10 mins by taxi and so theres still plenty to see and do for you. You will find it more quiet during the day and then the evening becomes packed when the tunisians have eaten or are going out for family meals and it is really nice to see. Your have a great time

I was going to say we stayed for a week in the Carri bean on a cruise ship. The year was 2000, and we spent $1400.00 for the entire week. That was eating out, drinking, nightclubs. Not to mention the things purchased like evening gown, necklace, and camera. The nice thing was when we got home, it was paid for. So no huge debt at all. He won the cruise from His employer.
