I guess there isn't any off season, I always found people visiting the place almost throughout the year, rather than specifying the time. It all depends on us as to which weather we would prefer.
Yes this is true, but it is a lot quieter in the winter, some of the hotels are even closed. You will find the rates at this time of the year a lot cheaper than in the summer...
I would say that I prefer to visit when things are quiet. If I see large crowds, I am more likely to want to leave. When it's more peaceful and less crowded I take my time and enjoy myself more.
