Importing car from UK
take care on this too as the car must be less than three years old.......but if you can get one that is less as when I brought my espace here it was 2yrs 4 months by the time the Douanne had faffed around it was 3 yrs and 1 week so they said sorry it is too old to keep here now??????? err I started before the care was this age it has been an ongoing process dont you take it from date of application? NO THEY DON'T....the age of the car is relevant at the time a decision is being made!
far easier to buy a car here although more expensive....or buy a car in Belgium/France/Germany as new and bring it here as the douanne would be the equivalent of the amount saved in costs of buying new in UK!

Hi folks having fun with the Douane again and I was wondering if anyone can give me a clear answer before I get myself arrested!

As many of you now I brought a nice golf for the wife and brought it to Tunisia after Fipa and the Douane told me that I could have RS. They then changed their mind as I am a service company which didn;t register when I said no problem if you have told me before! I then said ok then I pay the tax lol they then said the car was 65,000 dinars lol which is about 3 times the value of the car.

Anyhow I have made the decision to get shot of the car and sell it here and have got aout 5 different answers from no problem to you will have to pay tax.

Does anyone know the real answer to this or has anyone done this before.

Logically I cannot see the issue as the buyer will need RS/FCR or somthing to buy the car anyhow.

Please anyone do not bring your car unless you are sure and have written comfirmation. Also do not speak to anyone less than Captain level as i have never had so much time wasted ever!

That is easy: You WILL have to pay the taxes, because you need either the car or the tax receipt when you want the car being deleted from the passport. No exceptions.

You should look to find a tunisian with a FCR - then bring the car to Italy, hand it over, and he will import it from there. This is the easiest procedure for all involved.
OR - you try yourself to buy a FCR from someone, as long as the price is lower than the tax, it could make sense. :-)

The customs tax is, btw, depending on, in this order,

- the price the good is regulary sold at in Tunisia when it was produced there
- the price the good was regularly sold at in another country (receipt, list price!)
- an estimation of the customs office (which is always bad...)

In the case of a Golf, which is not produced in Tunisia, the regular shop price at which you bought it in the UK must be the base for the customs - plus a luxury tax on top. Talk with the custom office in Tunis (near the central bank) and then decide what you will do...
