Anyone ever taken their car to Tunisia from the UK. I’m from London and not sure where my nearest port would be. I’d appreciate knowing what the procedure would what do***ents I’d need to bring.
Sorry, what I meant to say, if we wanted to take a car with us to Tunisia whilst on holiday what would we need to do? From memory I know there isn’t a direct ferry from the UK (Southampton/Portsmouth?) to Tunisia, we would probably have to go from the UK to France or Italy, not sure, and then from there to Tunisia. I know people drive part of the way, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that. It’s probably not a good idea anyway, better to hire, but just wanted to know if anyone’s done it. It would mean taking two ferries.
I’ve heard recently that some countries, not sure about Tunisia, only allow people to bring their cars in if they are between 1-3 years old, not sure if this is for holiday or for people relocating. With regards to shipping a car when relocating, it takes about 12 days, it’s a round trip to about 15 ports and cost around £500.
I have driven to Tunisia from the UK a couple of times. Take the channel tunnel and drive down to Marseille, then the ferry from Marseille to Tunis. You can take a car of any age into Tunisia for a maximum of 3 months in any one year. Ferry details at www.sncm.fr.
The crossing is about 20 hours long so a cabin is a good idea!
Hi Phil, do you know how much it costs to bring your car in to Tunisia. I currently reside here, but my car is in England i am now thinking about bringing it over but do not where to start, how to do it and how much it will cost.
For a tourist to import a car for up to 3 months, its just the cost of the ferry crossing plus insurance and a stamp in the passport which is a few pounds I think.
If you are talkng about permanently importing your car, I believe it you will have to pay quite a high import duty and the car will have to be less than 3 years old. How long are you staying in Tunisia? If for a long time, it might be worth thinking about buying a cheap car there.
Phil

Thanks i actually live in Tunisia and you are right it is going to cost a fortune, i have a renault clio at home in England but its a K reg so i cant bring it over without it costing the earth, so looks like i will have to buy one here, its amazing how attached you can be to your car, cant believe ive got to get rid of my little baby
Prices for cars are really quite expensive here compared to the UK, but you can find a reliable second hand car - but find the right person! there is also a car sale at the local souk in Sousse on a Friday and this is the recommended place to look for a car, also held in Tunis too. Ive been quoted about 3000-4000 dinar for a Peugeot 106 (secondhand), with all the valid paperwork, above board etc. You can find a good deal but like most things in Tunisia it really is who you know.
Hi there!
summer 2007 I've brought my car to Tunisia but from Dublin hopefully I've stoped at my parents in Paris 24 hours. It was a real expedition lol it took us 3 ferries (20hours sailing total) over 2000kms drive as we decided to take ferry from Roma to Tunis.
It is a great souvenir I was travelling with my 18 month baby and 11 brother!
I definitly was the only irish plates in Tunisia last summer!!!!
