I contribute some of my experiences for special car rental.
I needed a strong and reliable 4x4 car for my tour. After long search the only company who had one without the necessary driver is the ADA Tunisie.
I rented a Nissan Pickup with carryboy, 3200ccm diesel, that was a blast in the rock desert.
Unfortunately the long wheelbase is not helpful on sand dunes and I missed the differential lock, which is a must in the desert but it was fine for low speed offroad driving.
The consumption was very good, under 9 liter/100 km, which is surprising, I used 4x4 and the technical low gears frequently on tracks.
I you want to drive on red/yellow roads on the official map, a regular family car is enough, you do not have any traffic advantage with larger car like in Europe. If you want a self contined tour, the pickup is the best choice.
The employees of the company try to ask you for 10 euro or similar amount for taxi if they deliver the car to hotel or for gasolin if you leave the car on airport, so the regular friendly baksish negotiation is in process:-)

Default Hi

Hi,

You just need to show your driving licence when you rent a car in Tunisia, I have never had to show the paper of my licence when I have rented here neither have my parents, I and my parents always use camel cars - www.camelcar.co.uk

Default Hi

When Anis rents a car in tunisia he just shows his license to him and they take a photo copy of itbut no Sam you dont need to show the license papers.

I remember the last time Anis rented a car and of course i cant drive so Anis thought that he would show me how to drive so i got in with bear feet because i had flip flops on and then i started to drive i went up to 35 KPH in 1st gear!Anis was screaming at me lol as i was about to go out onto the main road as i felt comfortable Thats not to bad is it lol?

Hi kelly just been looking at camel cars website and for the booking information the dates don't let you change from 2006? Have your parents booked straight from online? Or once they're are at the airport?

Default Hi

Hi Sam,

No my parents always book online, and they booked with them in August but then they normally email them as they always give a discount because they have used them so much, but it may be worth giving them an email I know they paid about 400 dinar for 10 days, not sure if that was with a discount.

Driving in Tunisia is actually quite easy as their so used to having to stop and start! its just the kids playing and crossing you have to be more worried about - though Ive just driven in UK for the first time in well over 15 months and I started on the wrong side of the road lol oops!
