Hi,

Tunis to Monastir takes around 2.5 hours by taxi depending on traffic, if you have a nutta driver it can be done in 2 hours!

Hi! I think you might have to try for loages there, shared cabs. Thing is, you might not get one that goes all the way, but go maybe to Sousse and find another one... if you do find one that goes all the way, congrats! And DEFINETLY agree on the price first, haggle for all your worth when it comes to taxis.

can't help you with prices, sorry. loages are taxis so they might work whenever, but of course it depends on whether anyone else wants to go your way... or if you and a taxi driver reach a price you both find agreeable for a ride all the way. I have always been fortunate enought to have my husband drive all the way to pick me up/drop me off when I have to go to the "wrong" airport. Loages usually have pickup/dropoff stations, but i don't see why they shouldn't take you to a hotel if you agree upon it. When i said you might have to change in Sousse it was just a suggestion, you might not find one that takes you all the way - but maybe you do, or maybe you'll have to change several times... coming in late on a Sunday might of course not make things easier for you. If you'd come in earlier ther would at least have been a train!

Is it not better to book a driver there or hire your own car to get to where you want to go?

Default Hi

Hi,

You can hire a car if you want too, but Louages are a very popular means of travel in Tunisia because they are cheap and they can take you practically anywhere! You can get a louage from Monastir - Tunis, Sousse - Tunis, Hammamet / Sfax - Tunis and the list goes on, there are louage stations in lots of places and also louages act as normal taxi's in the local areas running you from place to place. A louage from Sousse to Tunis costs 8 dinar per person, and for example if you were going from Kantaoui to Sousse (local areas) about 500 millimes!! Cheaper than a taxi by all means.

They even come in handy for when moving house!! we havent got a car yet, and weve recently moved from Sousse to Tunis, we rented a louage and the driver, he picked us up, loaded all our belongings and drove us to Tunis, right to our front door step.

Downfalls, can be smelly you get approximately 8 people in each louage, can be stuffy in the summer, but they can be pretty nippy if you get a crazy driver.

Louages run at all hours, we even grabbed a louage at 2.00 am!
