How is train travel in Tunesia? Has anyone ever done it? Are trains reliable?

Default Hi

Hi,

Yes I have travelled on the trains in Tunisia a lot. They are just as reliable as in any other country they have recently modernised the trains between Tunis and Ben Arous. To travel on long journeys for example from Tunis - Sousse, it is quite a comfortable journey with refreshments being brought through.

I have never been on a train in Tunisia but I have traveled by train and I actually find it one of the best ways to travel in that it is relaxing and you get to see alot of the scenery that you normally might not get to see.

They are heated in the winter right? I was wondering about the stations themselves. Are they pretty safe? Around here some of the station can get pretty hairy especially at night.

Default Hi

Hi ya,

I must say I have never done it alone and would be a little worried myself, but they are pretty busy at night and you should be fine. Are you referring to the direct train from Sousse to Tunis for example, as these are much nicer than what I call the inside town trains, we often used the train to go from Borj Cedria when we were living there to Tunis and the trains were not very nice and I was always a little cautious on them. Like Roulla said there shouldnt be any problem at all just be aware like you would normally. If your worried about travelling alone then I would personally suggest using a louage x
