Default The south

I have been traveling around Tunisia, but yet not the south. I am planning to start doing this in the springtime.
Anyone who has some advice or information to where I should start and where to go?

Hi I'm not long back from a trip to the south. Stayed in Djerba and went to Matmata, Ben Gardane, Gabes, Zarzis (if you look throught the posts you'll find details). Have stayed in Nefta (SW) before and visited, Tozeur, Metlaoui, Kebili, Douz, etc. I like visiting the south in the winter months as it always tends to be much warmer that the Sousse area. My preferences are Douz, Tozeur and the Island of Kerkennah. Hope this helps!

Default Kebili

Hey Isis
Can't really comment on many places in Tunisia as we usually holiday in Pek/Sousse! My husbands from the south just at the Sahara desert (kebili).

I've been a couple of times with him in the winter (January) and found it to be really beautiful although a little breezy!
We drove down to Kebili from Sousse (took about 5 hours) and was an experience I would recommend to all. The sights you see are not only beautiful but totally off the scale...i.e camels in the back of pick up trucks etc!
We stopped in Douz for something to eat..Grilled meat! This was a total eye opener as the wee lamb hung up on the spike for the man to chop bits off and cook for us, and his wee friend played around our feet as we ate!
Honestly its an experience that you never forget.
Bought all the local spices and sweets at the road side on the way. Each small place is seperated by vast open spaces..its great!

Hope you have a fab time travelling....I hope to be able to do the same soon.

I can recommend the island of Kerkennah, my fella took me there a few weeks ago and it was lovely. We took the ferry over then travelled across the whole island on his moped. We stopped off for a fish dinner in a restaurant overlooking the sea, it was beautiful. Kerkennah is very laid-back & has a relaxed atmosphere, I could certainly see myself living there. Sfax on the other hand I found to be totally crazy - maybe it's because I don't live in a city but it was chaotic all the time, traffic & people everywhere, all trying to get to the same place at the same time!! So Kerkennah was a welcome relief, I really enjoyed the peace and quiet.
