Default Troglodytes?

There were people in Matmata that were driven underground during invasions but I never associated them with the term "Troglodyte". Are there still people living in caves these days?

Is there some place where there are pictures of these cave homes? I assume they aren't just bare caves.

These dwellings are traditional berber homes, but I suppose they have been driven inside at times by attackers. People do live there all the time though, the homes stay cool in summer and warm in winter. The government has made sure they are supplied with electricity and water nowadays. The toilets are usually placed in "outhouses" outside the dwellings I understand. I have posted a few pics in the Gallery, although most of my photos appear to be in a format unknown to the system...

I took a look at the gallery and your pictures are clear as a bell. I like the way there is a little house-like entrance to the cave. They look quite comfortable.

Wouldn't you love to have one of those for a summer holiday home as a retreat?

Cave houses are something I have never heard of except for Native Americans from Alaska. In central America the Native American had log houses, or tepees made from leather.

Hi Grace, I'm hoping to go down to the south over the New Year. Will try to get some pix for you.

I would love to see some pictures. Thanks for putting them on the site. Because I can only imagine what it would be like.
