I thought it might be nice to start a new thread on nice positive things like

what's your favourite place to sit on the beach in hammamet?

where is your favourite place for early morning coffee?

    Best ice-cream shop?

Best beauty salon for girly things?

Best market for meat, fruit and veg? Roulla told me a great one in Nabuel (that might be the nearest best one)

Any other ideas would be really appreciated

    thanks again girls xx:cool:

the town beach is nice, but my personal favourite is the beachfront of the Sol Azur Hotel, and i LOVED spending many a day lazing by the SOL AZUR pool, sadly they started charging quite expensive for that for non hotel residents, what a cheek lol

the beach running from the cemetary up to the SOL Azur is equally as good though.

early morning tea for me lol, i don't drink coffee, so tend to use places that serve a properly made cup of english tea, even if i have had to teach them in the first place lol

has to be LELLA FATMA ~ overlooking the town centre beach, great people watching place, good food (meal of the day is only £5.50, 3 courses or it was!) clean crisp white tablecloths, flowers on the table, good service usually, although when its busy i get left til last as "always here" lol
have sat there loaded up with shopping from the market, and all the tourists with thier little bags of goodies from the medina lol have sat there with my cat in her travel box, and shes been treated fine too lol they give her saucers of milk and tuna chunks lol
i will never be ableto re-create that view whilst having a cuppa, but im gonna sure as hell go for it back in the UK!!

best icecream shop ~ from the centre walk towards "tutti frutti" and turn right, just down there on the left ALWAYS a big queue at night lol its definitely the best!

best beauty shop lol there are 2 ~ from the centre both on Ave de la liberation, over the main island, keep going, and there is one on the third corner on your left, (i used to live in that street at the top!)has some good stuff in there! and further up on the right (past tunisiana and ZEN) near the zebra crossing (my last home in hammaet was at the zebra crossing) is another one!! and a little further up, on the left next to a scooter shop is a great hairdresser/leg waxer lol VERY clean place (i have been to some real **** holes, and walked right out!!) really nce girls, not much english spoken if any, but they are good!!

nabeul market is good, but the actual market in hammamet is good, from the centre, going up ave de la liberation past tutti fruitti, there is a large car park and the main bus stop the market is there.
go in the market and the fruit and veg stalls are in front of you, the 3 on the RIGHT hand side ALWAYS have good quality non scabby looking fruit and veg!
from the entrance, turn LEFT the meat stalls are there, the one at the far end supplies a lot of the "better" restaurants, always good meats from him!!!
opposite him there are always some women with fresh arabic bread, brik and spices. and also the fish stalls are directly opposite the best meat stall, some great fish there!

    a few others?

best bakery/patisserie ~ at the top of ave de la liberation at the island at the EMIRA hotel, turn left and about 30 yards on your left! also quite way along the same road is an EXCELLENT butcher, clean and modern!!! great meat!!

also an excelent pattisserie on the opposite corner from tutti fruitti

Best sandwich shop ~ just past ZEN on the same side, think its changed name this year, as a freind of mine is now the owner, and just up from there, before the zebra crossing, there is an internet cafe, same guy is the owner, all new puters, comfy chairs, webcams, etc.

A good restaurant and place to escape the centre, up by the sol Azur, actually opposite the Bel azur called "black and white" a fave haunt of mine!

and in hammamet south, the "old vic" pub ~ sitting outside there on a gorgeous terrace with pagoda covered in flowers ~
another "escape the centre" place for me lol

coming out of hammamet centre towards la gare, SHOEPERMARKET is a must huh lol

and in yasmine, which i have never warmed to for some reason, the floating restaurant in the marina, its a boat can't think of the name ~ good meal there!

and of course for me ~ the british cafe lol seving brit food lol

there is of course also the cheers bar and shakespears, en route to yasmine, both get a bit lager loutish for my tastes, but are nice occasionally!

I now feel so homesick you would not beleive! LOL

Thank you mel and i'm so so sorry it took me so long to reply to your post. i did read your reply but couldn't reply to it at the time for some reason.....then i thought i had replied and then i totally forgot about it. i feel so rude and can't apologise enough. You write beautifully and feel as if i was strolling those streets with you, you really do know that place like the back of your hand.

    No probs hun,

hammamet was home, and it always will be, although we will have a home in the UK.

i could not write with feeling about the town i grew up in, but im getting to grips with north devon, even the local traffic warden has stopped shaking his head at me lol

the other day i was parked in a one way street, had no idea where it led, but another car seemed to know where he was going, there were road works and a diversion so i was, well i was lost!!

so i followed this other car....... right into HIS DRIVEWAY!

the guy gets out and asks if im lost

"no, i thought i would come to your house for dinner"

as i reversed off his drive, we both laughed and he gave me directions on how to get out of the maze i was in lol

won't go that end of town again!!

    LOL LOL LOL

That's so funny mel and as always i can just imagine the scene. If that happened to me in London they'd stay in the car and call the cops LOL LOL! So suspicious!
It's a good ploy to get to know your neighbours generosity though............. ah well on to the next town

    xx:)
