Monastir : Flights in 2011

Hello, Im wondering if anyone can shed some light to see what is going on. I am trying to book flights anywhere from the UK to Monastir- but somehow flights to Monastir cannot be booked- is this because flights will now be going to Einfidha - if so what will be happening to Monastir Airport? I have tried Thomson/Thomas Cook/Jet2.com

Yep i think from the new year most flights will be going to Enfidha. What is the site telling you??

We were told they were closing Monastir for refurbishment but dont know what dates they were closing or when re openning either. xxx

I have just come back from Tunisia and booked with T.Cooks, my booking said Monastir/Enfidha, but when got tickets it said Monastir. But hubby said it would be closing soon and will have to use Enfidah. Sorry that is all I know at present

I think it's closing from 1st May - But that's only what I've heard, nothing official.

Just done a dummy run online at fly t.cooks for 29th jan for 2 weeks and it came up going to monastir, that was from Manchester though, don't know about other airports.

im going from ema on the 9 january into monastir...DONT SCARE ME!my e ticket says monastir.ive n ot heard anything about it before.so we not sure then about dates of closing??

Monastir is NOT closing! I've personally asked my husbands friend (who is the airport director) and he said Monastir is NOT closing.

Its not closing - they are using it for certain countries. Enfidha will be used for most of the UK planes. So we heard when we were last there. Hubby has friends in customs.

Now TB, we have had this conversation before havn`t we. I don`t care what the airport director says, my femme de menage`s son know a taxi driver whose uncle is brother-in-law to one of the airport cleaning ladies, so she knows what is going on, and she said the airport will be closing, perhaps, her word is good enough for me.

i priced up for 30th march from manchester for monastir ans was ok but nothing after 30th april

A little while ago I revised a travel guide. I spoke also to the airport director who told me that Monastir is not closing. He did say that the majority of traffic will be directed to Enfidha and Monastir will downsize but it will not close.

And Cave - we must know the same taxi driver but he told the sister of the policeman that stands on the corner smoking who told my brother-in-law who told his son who told my husband that it wasn't closing. Why is this taxi driver telling lies??

Thank you all- I believe after some more digging around that Monastior will donwsize and flights from the UK by summer time will be going to Einfida- Monastir was great for us as it was close to Sfax where we have family but I suppose with the motorway to Einfida it will only add another 45mins to the journey...

You should save time because you do not have to navigate the MIR to motorway traffic.
