    Hey Everyone,

I hope everyone well, I just want to know if anyone knows, whether any hotels (Sousse area) or any travel companies offer the Sahara Explorer Excursion during the month of December?

Had a look at Thomson, but had no joy.

    Thanks

Try this link, Kam ... pretty similar to what mum and I did ... ... we did the 3 day ... a lot of people we spoke to at our hotel and at other places had done it on the bus ... they definitely did not recommend that amount of time on a bus ...

Plus I'll ask M tomorrow ... can't remember which company he worked for ... oops

BEWARE OF THE SAHARA DESERT BEDOUIN
I did the 3 day Sahara trip for the 2nd time in January time and thought it was well worth the travel, you're on and off the bus so much to see stuff that you don't notice the journey. Take care in Douz and don't make this same stupid mistake that I did..... we were riding along on the desert camel train and admiring the bedouin horses in their finery, when one of the bedouin rode over and asked me to ride on his horse. I thought it was a tourist ride, especially when he spoke the the camel man who just set the camel down to let me off as if it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The Bedouin helped me on the horse in front of him. We galloped off over the dunes so fast, I've never been on a horse before and I was scared of the speed. Next thing, his hands were all over me, in my bra and down my pants. I clung onto the horse terrified, he stopped after what seemed forever and pulled me off the horse, we'd gone well into the desert, there was nothing but sand as far as my eyes could see, I couldn't see the camel train anywhere. I sobbed and pleaded with him to take me back, he kept me there a short while, just looking at me, I guess he was deciding what to do. Eventually he put us back on the horse and rode me back to my empty camel which was still walking along with the train. I got back on the camel in absolute shock!! When I think about what could have happened and how stupid I was!!!

WOW you hear of kidna**ing in deserts like Yemen but this is a shock here--how easily this could have been very ugly or should i say uglier than it already IS ugly. Tour operator say anything after ?

OMG... what a scary experience. I 'm planning a trip later this year trekking/camping in the Sahara with my daughter!! I shall beware any bedouins on horseback. Did you report the incident to the tour guide? if so what if anyting did they do or say? Thank God you were'nt harmed it could have been so much worse. I never thought I would hear of something like this happening in Tunisia.

What a shocker! I'm stunned to hear this and am so glad you are safe.

I'm also interested to hear what the Tour operator's response to this was. Did you think of doing a declaration against him at the local police station?

    Recourse

just because he rides a horse across the desert does not mean he is above the law or is not a Tunisian

The tour operator let you off the camel

i've always felt comfortable in Tunisia that there is recourse. This has given me great comfort as i travel way into the corners

I never spoke a word about it at the hotel when we came back to Sousse from our desert trip. My husband was staying at the hotel and everything I did or said there he knew about from the staff, he would have gone absolutely crazy with me firstly for being so gullible and secondly because he doesn't allow me to look or speak to another man, let alone get close on a horse with one!! He'd have given me hell.
I really did think at the time that the bedouin incident was proably the norm in Douz, mainly because the camel man showed no surprise at all; and that it had all been my own stupid fault, but I can tell by your responses that this is not the norm and I'm astonished at this. I had no chance to speak when I got back on my camel, my friends camel had moved some distance away, but when we were all let off our camels and I told her she was hysterical laughing, all she went on about was omigod how handsome he was!! I've even got a photo of him that she took, if I can find it I'll post it up later.

I think you should have said something to your tour operator at least. If he's done this once he's probably tried it before, maybe with success. He may think having a handsome face makes him "irresistble" to women and immune from prosecution.
If no one says anything about incidents such as these, women are not forewarned and when he gallops off with the next one she may not get off so lightly.
Surely your husbands concern would have been for your safety. Take care.xxx

Bobby. You are dead right! I am going to make ammends for this and compile an email which I will send to all the tour operators. I am astonished at your responses, I really believed that I was one in a long line of victims and everybody must know about this practice except nieve me.
As for informing the police, I have previously been to a police station in Monastir due to a car accident and found that they didn't understand me, just kept sending me to tell somebody else, and I left the police station after hours without them even taking any kind of statement or even taking the wreckless drivers details from me. This being my experience of the Tunisian police stopped me from going to them again.

Oh God! It seems you have had some not really good experience in Tunisia.
What can I say! Just take care the next time honey!!!

As for your hubby's possible reaction, I find it really horrible. Your hubby should protect and take care of you, even if you make a mistake. This is life, we are all humans, we ALL make mistakes. Don't tell me that your hubby is a little god and that he never makes mistakes ....

    HI SilverMoonlight.
My experiences don't stop at Tunisia, I went hot air ballooning in Majorca and got shot at twice with a gun while we flying in the basket! That was really scary.

Hi Everyone hope that you are all in good health! To tell you the truth nothing surprises me anymore i don't know if that is because i am older and much wiser, i'm really not sure..But what i am sure about is that anything and everything happens everywhere, and although i am disgusted with this dogs behaviour i would also like to say open your eyes, be very alert at all times and never trust easily...Yes Debbiez this matter should of been reported to the police on the same day, but i am and was not in your shoes to criticise you..but what i will say to you is , if your husband is as strict as you say surely if you now report the matter to the tour operators your husband may eventually find out and cause more problems for you between your husband, after all he trusted you...I am not saying that we all don't make mistakes because we are all human and we do make mistakes, but your husband may be extremely upset for not telling him at the time of this happening or at least a few days after the event.....If it was my daughter believe you me i would not let this Dog get of lightly and especially if i had his photo, he would of been in the Tunisian news, i would of named and shamed the damm Dog and i would have not have given up til he was punished and believe you me in Tunisia he would have been lashed..Whatever you decide in doing best of luck ..
  19. i've heard stories before going to Tunisia about this bedouin riding from a friend of mine but not with the same end.her bedouin just took her for a ride.i guess it depends on the person.but when we were in the desert with the camels some bedouin came, too and asked us if we wanted a ride.we refused.
sorry about this.it must be awful for you, hun.
