Default Promoting American tourism in Tunisia

Tunis, January 27, 2007-(TunisiaOnline)--New trends in world tourism, Tunisia’s development strategy for its tourism as well as ways of promoting north American tourism in Tunisia were reviewed as Mr Tijani Haddad, Minister of tourism, gave a talk yesterday at the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce (TACC).

Noting that the international tourist landscape has witnessed deep changes both insofar as the supply and the increase of tourist destinations was concerned , Mr Haddad said that Tourism played an important part in Tunisia’s economy as it contributes to 7% to the country’s GNP.

He also said that the continuous growth of the tourist sector, is due to Tunisia’s image as a country which has always advocated openness, tolerance, as well as dialogue between culture and civilizations.

Rich of its heritage and natural attires, Tunisia has also managed to boost Saharan tourism, spas, golf, and ecological tourism, added the Minister who also evoked future plans to boost Tunisia’s marinas, as a way of further valorizing Tunisia’s tourist industry.

Mr Haddad, specified that more than 30,000 American and Canadian tourists visited Tunisia in 2006.

In this respect, he called on professionals and tour operators in partnership with the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce to find ways to strengthen North American tourism in Tunisia, all the more so as the Tunisian product is today better equipped to meet the demands of American tourists, he said.

Does tourism increasing have a negative effect on your country? This is a question that should be of interest to everyone. Each country responds differently to these changes.
