Default Tourism and Money

Since there have been several posts about tourism, I have to ask if Tunisia makes most of its money from tourists? What other industries does Tunisia get revenue through?

Tourism is a large contributor to the economy with textiles and service industries also being key contributors.

Also given the current high commondity prices Tunisia does have a useful amount of gas/oil and minerals.

For example British gas is the largest foreign investor in Tunisia

I didn't know that Britain was the largest investor. What sorts of textiles are highly prized and produced in Tunisia?

I would love to know the textiles or clothing in Tunisia. The majority of it must be gorgeous to look at. Everything you buy there has it's own sense of style and grace.

Yes indeed, olive oil is also important... a lot of it is exported, I don't know any current figures but think Kris posted some in the news section... I always bring some with me home as my in-laws grow olives! Tunisia also exports a lot of dates.

I love those dates. I grew up with my Grandmother making date bread and date cookies. They were delicious!! I can never get enough of those. Recipes for Dates are always something I can use. I was looking in particular for a date bread recipe. Let me know if you have anything I could use.

Hi all,

Now im not saying this because im greek but the best olive oil in the UK is extra virgin olive oil, but what i wanted to tell you, is that infact the largest producers of olive oil are Greece,Tunisia,Spain,Italy and Portugal, the city of Chaal is the largest producers in Tunisia.

I buy our olive oil in a huge can. It's Bertolli olive oil, which is made in Italy. I use it for almost everything. My spaghetti sauce, marinating meats, and seafood. Steaks and shrimp taste great with some olive oil and garlic. It's great to know it's made in Tunisia too.
