Default Djerba, best tourist destination in 2008, according to US ''trip advisor''

The island of Djerba has been retained as the best tourist destination in 2008 by the US "Trip Advisor" guide, actual barometer of the most valued tourist destinations in the world, which says " tourists of 2008 will chose first places that provide cleanliness and respect of the environment ."

Djerba is ranked ahead of touristic sites in Egypt, Thaïland, India, Italy, Morocco, France, China and Montenegro.

This international acknowledgement clearly shows the new travel trends which Tunisia's hotelkeepers should now take into account and value in their upgrading strategies.

Moreover, Djerba also represents the land of tolerance where the three monotheistic religions coexist in security and where peace is deep-rooted in its rich and ancestral traditions.

The island numbers today 112 hotels of different categories, 16 restaurants, 60 travel agencies, 33 leisure centres and 15 seawater therapy centres.

In the first 11 months of the current year, the island received one million and 100 593 tourists, which is a rise of 2,40 % compared with the same period last year .

The tourists' bed-nights stood at 7 695 589 and the rate of occupancy at 69,16%.
