Default "New York Times": Tunisia isThe 3rd most beautiful country in the world to visit in

- Tunisia is ranked the third best place in the world to visit in 2008 according to the American newspaper "New York Times".

Out of a total of 53 countries, Tunisia is placed just behind Lisbon (Portugal) and Laos (South-East Asia). It is followed by Mauritius, Miami Beach and South Beach. Many causes could explain Tunisia advanced ranking.

The wave of recent high luxuriously hotels equipped with modern boutiques that appeared often in old houses along the coasts and beaches and attracting a growing number of wealthy visitors , said the newspaper.

It should be remembered that the island of Djerba, situated in the south of Tunisia, has also been declared the best destination to visit in 2008 by the American Travel Guide "Trip Advisor."

I'll be visiting Djerba again next week from 12th to 15th Feb. Travel Republic had a superb deal in the 4* Melia hotel there - £20.45 per person per day on room & breakfast basis. Phoned hotel direct and they gave me their special rate of 44 dinars per person per day Half Board - too good a deal to turn down!

Hey essem, i hate giving the rich guys money but i have never had a bad experience with el mouradi. maybe because my husband used to work there but before i knew him I always found the standards high and the staff super friendly.

Hi Feefad, Did your husband work in the Mouradi in Djerba? Years ago I've stayed in the one in PEK the standards were very high, service faultless, food excellent - 44 dinars per hday half board is such a great deal - how can they make money on that rate? Still I suppose it's a quieter time of year and any money is better than none at all!!

hi essem no he worked in a few of them around PEK over the years. We also stayed in the one at gammarth and again faultless. I think they make a profit probably cos wages are not too great and also they make a fortune in the summer months.

Well that is certainly a boost for the tourism trade, the Americans certainly like their comforts and expect high standards, so must be doing something right.
As for Djerba, I really want to visit there it just looks so lovely, maybe my choice for a honeymoon.
