--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Just to introduce myself, I have been a member since April this year and sporadically look in to see what is new. My name is Rick I live in Peterborough uk. I have been to Sousse 4 times over the past two years most recently in July.

I wondered if any of you guys that live there in Tunisia Sousse area, or have bought house or apartment in Sousse area, if you could give me details of a reliable house insurance company.I purchased an apartment there in Sousse, lovely location right on the beach. I need now to get it insured reliably.

Any help would be very much appreciated....Thank you so much.

Rick

Hi Rick

I have my car insured through MAE (Mutuelle Assurance de l'Enseignement) they have offices in Sousse and Hammam Sousse - they say they do general insurance but unsure of exactly how 'general'.

There is also Star Assurance in the centre of Sousse might be worth a try.

Useful link might be www.zawya.com/cm/companylookup.cfm?Industry=0209

Actually it's something I haven't done yet!!

hello
We insured our flats through MAE in Sousse (in front of the lycée de garçons-not far from the medina). They were very helpful. But does anybody know of a company which insures maisons secondaires? It seems that if you are away more than 45 days in a year, you are not covered for theft. We didn't have time to contact more insurance brokers and signed with them for the first year when they assured us it would be the same everywhere. But we are insured for all the rest including 'responsabilité civile' under the house insurance. Thanks for any info.

Being your house insured is a great idea! Your house will most likely
be the single biggest investment you'll ever make. The unexpected cost
of repairing the structure of your property or replacing your valuable
contents can often cause great distress, so it's essential to protect
your home with an appropriate house insurance policy.

Hi deb123,

The majority of people I know there have not taken out home insurance - I haven't either - it probably would be wise to though!

With car insurance - it took my insurance company 10 months to settle the claim - I was in the right but they would not pay out until they had received the money from the other company - it's not like here that they settle and then the companies battle it out. I had to pay to have my car repaired and then wait for the money to come through. I asked what would have happened if i hadn't had money to pay for the repair and they just told me that my car would have been off the road for as long as it took. The other thing is that is you want to cancel car insurance you have to give them 2 months notice in writing - if you don't you are obliged to reinsure with the same company - no way around it!

They have different ways of working so if you're going to take it out I think you would have to go into every aspect of claims etc before you decide.

Hi Rick
Just to introduce myself - My name is Shahid and I live in London and have just joined this forum. I have not yet been to Tunisia so I could not suggest an insurance company there.

Do you or anyone who knows about the apartments being sold in Hergla by 'El Hana Simha' (?) apparently and who is their authorised agent in London and who is a good English speaking contact from 'El Hana Simha' in Sousse to arrange viewing, if required?

Is the project completed? I saw their website in French and they do not seem to have one in English. Not sure how many apartments are there in Thalassa Residences

Also what is the best way to reach Hergla from London and where could you recommend to stay economically in Hergla?
Best wishes, Shahid

Hello Shahid,

We own an apartment at Thalassa - there are 52 apartments in the developement.
thetunisianhouse.co.uk were the company we bought through they are based in Britain and Tunisia.
While buying the property we have stayed at various hotels in PEK, which is a cheap taxi ride away from Hergla.
Please contact us by private message if you want any more info.

Dave and Bob,
Gloucestershire, UK.
