Unhappy Up Coming Wedding

Hi All,

I am due to get maried fingers crossed in December. I have a certified copy of my birth certificate and I collected my independant paper yesterday.

What I need to confirm is the paperwork I received from the embassy in Tunis confirmed what I needed I have done all except the medical with a tunisian doctor which has been arranged for the 3rd December in french and the embassy will also do my translations however do I need to get my birth certificate legalised as I don't wish to go over again and find I can't get married especially as my family have all booked flights?

Also I have looked at all the forums and the feeback on VISA's and wanted to know which one you would recommend I applied for. My planned date of marriage is 7th December and on the 10th December I will drive back to Tunis to register my marriage. I will take my job contract 3 months payslips and bank statements alongwith my savings book. I will also draft the letter of invitation but as there is so much to take in and getting concerned the closer it gets.

Default your wedding

I want to say first of all congratulations :-)

When i got married in tunisia I had to have cert of no impediment and also birth certificate which had to be issued no more than 21 days before my visit.

I notices you said you have 3 months bank statements for Visa I had to take 6 months and 6 months of payslips also. My friend had to return to the UK to get the statements fax over because she only had 4 with her so please check with the embassy before you go.

Im not sure but as far as I am aware you dont need a letter of invitation unless he is only coming for a holiday.

Hope this has helped

Good Luck

Jacqui x

I just got married 2 saturdays ago. What i needed was:
certificate of no inpediment, which i got from here then we took to the embassy in Tunis, who for 159 dinar translated it in to french, we picked it up the next day.
Up to date birth certificate, which we got translated in Hammamet for 10 dinar
His birth cert
Copy of my passport
Doctors letters for both of us that cost 10 dinar each. We did not have to h ave any test!

As far as registering the marriage in Tunis, this isnt a requirement, and even if you do it (for a fee there and here) your marriage still wont be on register in england. I would get your marriage certificate translated independantly, you will be able to use it here for change of name etc.

The marriage is still legal in england, even if you dont have the emabssy translate it for you.

Good luck
Nic x

Default Hi

Hi Gina,

Congratulations and good luck with the wedding.

As Jacqui said I would take 6 months pay slips and statements I have heard that they require 6 months worth too. The visa to apply for is really down to you and your situation, if you want to apply for a visitors or a settlement visa, just make sure you have all the relevant do***entation and have a look at the new visa forms they give you a lot more detailed advice. You seem to have all the do***ents ready for your marriage, just make sure they are all within the time (i.e. birth certificate dated within the time limit required for the area).

Hope you enjoy your wedding day x

Fingers crossed Gina, and as has been pointed out earlier - make sure that your papers are not too old! My BC could be no more than 15 days old.

Default Your wedding

Hi .. I got married in Tunis, Tunisia on the 20th August this year ... i know exactly how you feel ... once you get started and get the right information it is easy ..

I applied for my certificate of no impediment from my local registry office in england took it to the embassy in Tunis who translated it into french for a fee and we had to go back and collect the next day..

You dont need to get your birth certificate translanted by the embassy it can be done by a typist who does traduction's in any city or town make sure you get this done 21 days before the wedding if it is dated before it will be rejected..

I got a certificate from a doctor in Tunis i didnt have any tests and i didnt even speak with the doctor my fiance (at the time did it all for me) then took all of our do***ents to the place where we were getting married and got a date.. they also needed a copy of my passport and his birth certificate.. thats it ...

dont forget to ask for a copy of your marriage certificate in French as the british embassy wont deposit a copy in the english records if the certificate is in arabic. And if you do send it via the embassy in Tunis to be deposited in the english records it is a registed and legal marriage in england.

Hope you enjoy your wedding ...

The certificate of no impediment was translated at the Embassy, think it was around 170 dinar. I got my birth certificate translated into French or Arabic at a local translators in Sousse, think it cost about 10 dinar. We also got my husband's birth certificate and bulletin 3 translated into English at the same place also cheaply, it wasn't a requirement for the visa, but thought it would be useful when he arrived here and it might add weight to the application. I enclosed loads of weekly pay slips and one printed on-line bank statement which was recent at the time, and one 5/6 month building society statement, both statement where looking good, but previous ones weren't and I wasn't sure what they'd think if they saw me being overdrawn and a small overdraft, so the payslips help me out a lot. To be on the absolute safe side bring 6 months worth of statements. I think I was lucky! Good luck with everything.

Hi There, Thanks for that. How did you find the translator if you don't mind me asking? Also did you have to go to the common wealth office to get your birth certificate legalised and stamped to confirm it's real??
